Set their direction daily
The Compass Point:
Be the first and most consistent daily voice.
The Issue:
Every day, our children walk into a flood of competing messages about identity, priorities, beauty, success, popularity, and truth.
If we are not intentional, culture will gladly set the emotional and spiritual direction of their day before we do.
The Reset:
Intentional parents learn to start the day by pointing their children toward what matters most before the world gets the first voice.
Small daily rhythms often shape children far more than occasional big conversations.
A simple prayer.
A repeated phrase.
A reminder of truth.
A moment of connection before the chaos begins.
Over time, repeated direction becomes internal direction.
Try this this week:
Create one small morning rhythm that points your child toward faith, character, or identity before they leave the house.
When our girls were younger, every morning in the school drop-off line, we would pray together before they got out of the car.
Then, as they opened the door, we would say:
“Do your best…”
And they would smile and respond:
“God’s got the rest.”
It took less than ten seconds. But every day, before the world had its turn, we reminded our children:
work hard
trust God
remember who you are
Pro Tip:
Simplicity and repeatability matter a lot. You are less likely to stick with it if you overcomplicate it. You also want whatever you do to rattle around in your child's brain all day long. If you are able to create a simple jingle, they work best.
