Great parents never stop doing this…

The Compass Point:

Great parents never stop learning.

The Issue:

Many parents unknowingly approach parenting with a fixed mindset.

They assume they should already know what to do. So when something is not working in their home, they either feel discouraged or simply keep repeating the same approach over and over again.

But parenting is a learn-as-you-go experience.

It is impossible to know what will work in your home, with your specific child, and with your unique parenting style without some trial and error.

Every child is different.

Every parent is different.

Every home is different.

What works beautifully for one family may completely fail in another.

The Reset:

Intentional parents are always learning.

They seek out new ideas. They read books. They ask questions. They listen to podcasts. They observe other families. They experiment.

Most importantly, they give new approaches enough time to actually work.

One of the most common parenting mistakes is trying something new for two days and quitting because it did not immediately produce results.

Real change often takes time.

Consistency matters more than intensity.

Instead of trying something for a day, try it for a month. Give your child time to adjust. Give yourself time to improve. Evaluate slowly, not emotionally.

And if something still does not work? That is okay too.

Just because something worked for another parent does not mean it will work for you.

Try this this week:

Identify one area of parenting that has become frustrating or ineffective.

Then ask: “What is one new approach we could try for the next 30 days?”

Commit to consistency before deciding whether it works.

Pro Tip:

As mentioned above, your kids are all different. It may not be wise to make universal changes when only one child needs the adjustment. In addition, there are different stages of your child's development, so techniques will need to change over time, even if they once worked.
